NORTHWEST
MINNESOTA HOUSING COOPERATIVE
The Northwest Minnesota Housing Cooperative (NMHC) is a construction
company that is owned by both local contractors and various material
suppliers in Northwest Minnesota communities. The goals of the NMHC
are fourfold:
-
Building
quality homes
-
Bringing
affordable housing to the area
-
Providing
year-round work for local cooperative members
-
Supporting
the housing industry by giving savings back to local members
The
NMHC is building homes in six communities in Northwest Minnesota: Bagley,
Crookston, Detroit Lakes, Fosston, Thief River Falls and Warroad.
Most homes are built in new development areas in order to maintain a high
market value on constructed houses and to pass on the investment savings
to the homeowner. Since 1998, 119 homes have been built by the NMHC,
with 57 being purchased by first time homebuyers. Overall, $15.8
million is invested in Northwest Minnesota.
The
Northwest Minnesota Housing Cooperative was created through a joint effort
between the Midwest Minnesota Community Development Corporation (MMCDC)
and USDA - Rural Development. For additional information, links
and photographs, please view the website by visiting http://www.nmhchomes.com/.
